Mixed Reception Installation Instructions

Installing Mixed Reception:

[Step 1]Unzip the contents of MixedReception.zip to a directory on your hard drive. (In this beta version, choosing a folder on the desktop, or a folder such as ‘Program Files’ will cause an error when trying to view the evidence. To avoid this problem, please be sure to place the MixedReception folder in a directory that has no spaces in the pathname.) Note that extracting files from a zipped archive requires a separate program, such as Winzip.

[Step 2] In order to view the movies in Mixed Reception, you will need to install the Java Movie Software, [Jmf.exe] which is located in the Additional Software folder. If you are using a computer where you cannot install software, there is an easy built-in solution. Drag the "Projects" folder into the "Mixed Reception" folder. When asked to confirm file overwrite choose ‘yes to all’.

[Step 3] To run Mixed Reception, double click on the file ‘MixedReception.exe’ found in the Mixed Reception Folder.

[Step 4] The ClassroomMaterials folder contains all the materials you and your students will need to complete the activity.

In-Class Use:

We suggest using Mixed Reception as an in-class activity where students work in pairs or small groups. Because students will be calculating molecular weight, they will need calculators.
