Exp 9: Iodometric Titration Online Tutorial - Preparation of a KIO3 Standard Solution

Conclusion

You have now completed the tutors for preparing a KIO3 solution in the lab. During your experiment, you will begin by making a KIO3 solution of known concentration which you will use to titrate your sample. You will then analyze your titration data and use the concentration and the volume of KIO3 to calculate the amount of vitamin C in your foodstuff sample.

In this tutorial we assumed that our foodstuff sample contained 10 mg of ascorbic acid. In the lab, when you are preparing your standard solution, if you weigh less than 0.1g of KIO3, the analytical balance can only give you 3 significant figures (the balance is accurate to 4 decimal places). Consider how this might affect your results.

Can you change the size of your sample or reduce the expected volume of the titrant?
